Ben of SimBoxx sat down and chatted to up and coming boxer, Oxfordshire’s own Charmaine White. The 27 year old is currently sidelined after an accident but was happy to chat and discuss what the future has in-store for her.
SB: So Charmaine, tell us a bit about yourself?
CW: I fight at Bantamweight and have done since I started in October 2019. I train out of Didcot Academy. I currently fight 3 rounders on local shows. It all began when I lost a friend to cancer and competed on a UWBC event. (Ultra White Collar boxing)
BJ: That’s great, the UWCB are really good. They build confidence, get you fit and give you an idea of what its like to fight. So since October, what record do you have to date?
CW: I have 6 fights. 3 wins, 2 draws and unfortunately 1 loss.
BJ: That’s a decent amount of fights and not a record to be sniffed at. What’s the plan next?
CW: Training has been going great and hopefully will continue, if so then the amateur ranks is where I want to be later in the year.
BJ: Hoping to go pro?
CW: I listen to my coaches and take one day at a time. If they think Im good enough then that’s something I want to do.
BJ: Ok, so putting the pro side to one side, what do you think you can achieve at amateur level?
CW: At the moment, I’m trying to focus and get back to my best and hopefully win an area title and see where that takes me.
BJ: I understand that your lucky enough to have sponsors?
CW – Yes, I have 4. (Hurricanna, Reeves Scaffolding, MJ white Painting and decorating and finally Liam Chewings PT. I’m so lucky to have these as they help me with nutrition during camp and help me to buy fight gear and equipment.
BJ: Women’s boxing is certainly on the rise and its popularity is increasing. Who stands out for you?
CW: Your on the button there, it is on the rise and its great watching it grow. Theres some rally talented fighters out there. I really like watching Chantelle Cameron and Terri Harper.
BJ: Thanks for your time Charmaine. One final question, if you could see one fight this year, what would it be?
CW: For me, it has to be Wilder & AJ, however I can’t see that happening so its Dillian Whyte for me to follow this year!
BJ: Thanks for your time, and good luck with the future.
